Hobblebush Viburnum alnifolium
Family: Caprifoliaceae (Honeysuckle)
Branching: Opposite

The buds of Hobblebush usually give it away very easily.  They are large, naked and point away from the twig.  The buds are also covered in very fine hairs that are also obvious on the uppermost inch of so of the twigs.  Usually it is a low shrub, about knee to waist height, but sometimes grows higher.  Typically it's associated with wet areas.
